Cellular Memory
Caught Aeon flux. I love women in skin-suits, prancing around beating the shit out of eachother. Very stylish movie, which should be watched for the visuals alone, but nowhere near the amazing depth and complexity and total WTF-ness of the animation series.
Still, the theme which struck me most was that love, or the memory of love, can endure through lifetimes of cloning, death and rebirth, to suddenly re-awaken upon instinct.
This is much like the mind-blowing Dune novels which I'm currently reading, where a futuristic world of human evolution acknowledges that the most powerful individuals of all are those with access to the memories of past generations before them, allowing them prescient glimpses of future timelines, and the all-encompassing grandeur and futility of humanity across the galactic centuries.
How does this all relate to me? No idea. It's just a nice thought I guess, to realise that my little drama of life has been, and is being played out countless times, and in that sense we are not truly alone.
And as Aeon Flux put it, what makes life worth living is the fact that we do, ultimately die. That's a depressing thought for Christmas.

It's a depressing thought but a profound one as well. Interestingly enough I've spent the last few days thinking about what the moment of death feels like. One could resign and embrace it, or rage against it till the final moment. The first is a peaceful option, but it is also a callous betrayal of the life we've clung on to so preciously. The latter is more genuine, but it's terrible to slip into eternity with such despair.
Then I figured: the way to go is to not to think of onself, but to expand one's thoughts to humanity, and remember that things have come full circle; that this is the moment that millions have experienced but none have returned to report on. Relish the total sensation, and go knowing you are becoming part of something much bigger.
Unwarranted and unsolicited reflections; just wanted to share them.
